For many students in college, taking out a student loan is the only way that they can manage to pay for their education.  Even students who get grants and scholarships might not be able to pay for the whole price of college!  Many students will take out student loans in order to pay tuition, housing and groceries until they’ve graduated, especially those that cannot be sure that they can manage classes and work at the same time!  In this case, when they’ve graduated they might look at student loan consolidation as the easiest way to pay off their student loans.

If you’ve taken out loans from the same company, student loan consolidation is easy!  After graduation, there will be repayment options made available to you.  If you go online and look at your student loan account, you will see two or three repayment options.  There will be an option to make one payment a month for your student loans if you take them out from the same company.  You’ll want to pick the option to make one payment and then choose how you want to pay back the loan.  There will be options to pay at a fixed rate, like 200 dollars a month or at a variable rate that starts lower and gradually increases every year or two.  Choose the options that are best for you.
If you’ve taken out loans from a few different companies, student loan consolidation can be much more difficult.  For one thing, you are working with two or more companies.  In this case, you should look up student loan consolidation companies.  You can look online or in the phone book.
Be careful of scams.  There are people who will try to take advantage of your need to repay your loans and they will take your money, ruin your credit and leave you with more money to pay, so be careful to avoid scams, especially those that you find online.
Talk to a few different companies after you are sure that they are legitimate.  You want to find out which is the best for student loan consolidations, so get a feel for how they feel to you.  If you feel that anything is off, you might want to try another company.   You should be comfortable with the company.
Look for reviews about the companies that are at the top of your list.  This will give you an idea of how good a company they are.  If you see blogs by others that tell you that they’ve made late payments to your student loans, you’ll want to consolidate your student loans with a different company.
Keep in mind that you have six months after graduation for a grace period before you are required to start making payments on your student loans, so don’t rush it when you are looking for student loan consolidation companies.  Take your time and pick the best company for your needs.
